Frequently asked questions

Is it more work to freeze everything separately?

We find you save a lot more time when you're freezing components of food in individual portions because you can take out the exact amount you want for a meal without worrying about leftovers. Since the food is already cooked before freezing, you don't have any additional time in the kitchen other than time needed to reheat the food.

How is this approach to meal prep any different than freezing leftovers?

Our approach to meal prep is different than traditional meal prep because you're intentionally freezing components of food rather than complete meals. This allows you to mix and match already cooked food for rapid assembly and easy reheating. This allows for variety in your meal planning without having to eat the same leftovers multiple days in a row.

I'm new to mix-and-match meal prep. How do I get started?

To get started with mix-and-match meal prep, we recommend starting with one cuisine or flavor profile and freezing 1-3 proteins, grains, and vegetables. This will allow you to build a variety of combinations that you can mix-and-match that taste great together. Cuisines can include things like a Mexican-themed cooking session, South Asian-themed cooking session, American comfort food themed session, etc.

Can I microwave the trays or place them in the oven?

Yes, our trays are made from 100% platinum-cured silicone and are both microwave safe and oven safe up to 415° F.

How do I reheat mixed components together?

Place the frozen portions side-by-side in a Souper Cubes baking dish. You can microwave the baking dish (with a vented cover) or place in the oven. Reheat time and temperature will depend on whether it's previously thawed.

If microwaving completely frozen food, it's best to microwave on 50% power for 3 minutes so that it thaws and then finish on high heat in the microwave.

How do I remove the frozen cubes from the silicone tray?

To remove the frozen cubes from your Souper Cubes tray, let the frozen tray sit on the counter for 3-5 minutes so that it's easier to remove the cubes. You can either push up using your fingers or push out using your thumb. You do not have to twist the tray in any way to pop the cubes out.

How long does food last in the freezer?

We recommend eating through your frozen stash of food within 3-4 months for optimal freshness and flavor. You can store your frozen cubes in a freezer-safe bag or directly in the tray. For longer-term storage, we recommend transferring your frozen cubes to a vacuum-sealed bag.
